NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of the health of your heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular health). It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems. You will be contacted if your check is due. They are offered every five years to people aged between 40 and 74 who don't have kidney or cardiovascular disease.

Bowel cancer screening

Bowel cancer screening is a test you do at home that checks for signs of bowel cancer. It's offered to everyone aged 50 to 74 every two years.

Diabetes

If you have diabetes, you will be invited for regular eye screening checks to detect any signs of retinopathy, which can damage eyesight.

Hearing help

You can get a free hearing test and treatment on the NHS. A GP can refer you to a hearing specialist (audiologist) who can do the test.

Lots of large pharmacies and opticians can do hearing tests for adults. The test is often free, but you may have to pay for any treatment you might need, such as hearing aids

Vaccinations

Make sure you have your flu and Covid-19 vaccines when invited. It is important to top up your protection, even if you have had a vaccine or been ill with flu or Covid-19 before, as immunity fades over time and these viruses change each year. Find more information at www.GetVaccinatedNow.co.uk

You may also be eligible for other vaccines - please check with your GP practice.

People over 65 only need a single pneumococcal vaccination, which will protect you for life. Your GP practice will invite you. You can check with them if you are not sure if you have had the vaccination.
