How we use your information

NHS Kent and Medway wants to know what matters to you when it comes to your health, care, wellbeing, and the future of the NHS.

Principle 1: Put people at the centre of care 

  • Plan and provide services that are built around the person, not the system.  

  • Put a strong emphasis on listening to people's views and involving them in their care - people want to be listened to and involved especially when they are managing long term conditions or have complex needs.  

  • Protect time and workforce conditions that enable staff to be kind, consistent, and - NOT attentive  staff need to listen and act in partnership with patients.  

Principle 2: Design for access and timeliness  

  • Prioritise reducing waiting times, improving local provision, and tackling transport barriers.

Principle 3: Make communication across services seamless ​ and easy to understand  

  • Commission services with shared records, joined-up referral pathways, and proactive updates so that information flows smoothly between services .  

  • Help services to work together , not separately with you in the middle, so that you only have to tell your story once.  

Principle 4: Reduce health inequalities and prioritise inclusion ​  

  • Actively plan and provide services that meet the needs of diverse communities, reduce inequalities, and respect cultural and social differences.  

  • Proactive involvement of different communities.

Principle 5: Invest in prevention and services closer to people's homes   

  • Shift resources toward early intervention, self-care support, and voluntary/community partnerships.  

Principle 6. Recognise and support carers ​  

  • Commission services that identify , involve, and support carers (paid and unpaid)  including young carers, unpaid carers and those supporting people with complex or fluctuating needs.

Principle 7.  Give mental health parity to physical health and make sure it is not left out when thinking about health services.
